After nearly twenty years working with high-growth startups and global brands, I kept seeing the same pattern. The resumes were impressive, the interviews were polished, and the intentions were right, yet something always felt off.

Leaders would be hired with momentum and confidence, only to stall six or nine months later. Not because they lacked skill, but because they were never built for the environment they walked into. The cost was never just financial. It was cultural, strategic, and human. Everyone says, “your people are your greatest asset,” but most organizations are still hiring blind.

Where A-WAY™ Was Born

The first version of A-WAY™ was not created in a boardroom. It was written on a napkin. I was flying home from Vancouver after a startup conference, having just heard the same quotes repeated again and again: “Culture is everything.” “A-Players change everything.” “Mishires cost millions.

All true. And yet, no one could clearly explain how to identify a true A-Player before the damage is done. Somewhere between YVR and YYZ, I started sketching the real problem. We were evaluating what people had done, but not how they lead, how they decide, or how they show up when the pressure is real.

That napkin became the first blueprint for what is now A-WAY™.

Why We Built It
